Results: save money, reduce waste, improve service, increase morale, increase productivity
the brief
This well known Australian food company launched its FY17 corporate strategy to its 60 manufacturing sites. The message was well thought through and included detailed information around five key objectives for the organisation. Each site was subsequently given free rein to deploy the strategy in their own style.
the execution
Efficiency Works assisted one site to deploy the corporate strategy using Hoshin Kanri techniques. The management team worked through six strategy A3’s covering both operational and cultural aspects of the business that were seen as critical for the successful deployment and support for the corporate strategy. These A3’s detailed specific performance outcomes as targets and details of specific activities that would be required to realise these goals.
For each production line, team members were then engaged to develop strategic A3’s with targets specific to those operational areas. Team members are now involved in daily meetings to focus on how they can positively impact operational outcomes.
the results
The process resulted in:
-
significant lift in staff engagement at all levels
-
evidence of cultural change after a few months
-
dramatic improvements in operational performance e.g. 20% improvement in OEE
-
foundations in place for an embedded scientific approach to CI
-
extensive engagement of team members in the use of the A3 methodology
“engagement levels of production staff have dramatically increased”
