Efficiency Works is able to facilitate a Set-up Reduction (SMED) Blitz in your plant. The objective of this exercise is to work with a small team (up to 13 people) to improve the set-up time of a key process in your business.
As people learn best by doing our workshops are very practical and hands on. During the workshop participants learn set-up reduciton concepts and then practically apply the tools. This way your organisation benefits from the learning experience as well as some set-up improvement, all in a short period of time.
The output of the blitz includes:
· Facilitated support for the application of set-up reduction (SMED) principles in a pilot area
· An understanding by the participants of why Set-up Reduction is important
· An understanding by the participants of how to implement Set-up Reduction
· Action plan developed to ensure ongoing continuous improvement

What is a Kaizen Blitz?
Kaizen means change for good. A Blitz is a short sharp concentrated effort. A Kaizen Blitz is therefore a change for good in a short, sharp concentrated effort which combines the appropriate Lean Manufacturing Tools. Each tool incorporates team empowerment and problem solving to rapidly make improvements to a specific process.
The Kaizen Event methodology has been used extensively for improving the organisation of work in factories. The results are real-time with implementation occurring within a few days, rather than weeks or months. Not only will you obtain immediate improvements to your process - you will also develop a list of other improvement opportunities that your staff can investigate and implement after the Kaizen Event. The Kaizen Event will provide your company with immediate tangible results and motivation for ongoing continuous improvement within your company
Kaizen Blitz offers a number of advantages over other traditional problem solving, for example:
· Immediate results
· Involvement of the workforce
· Visual solutions
· Action orientated outcomes
· Competencies which can be leveraged for other projects
· Improved communication
· Creative solutions rather than capital investments
· Employees with an improved business perspective
· Effective implementation of change through the application of teamwork
