Problem Solving Blitz
What we do?
Efficiency Works is able to facilitate a Problem Solving Blitz in your business. The objective of this exercise is to work with a small team (up to 13 people) to identify and implement improvements using the DMAIC problem solving process.
As people learn best by doing, our workshops are very practical and hands on. During the workshop, participants will actually apply simple problem solving techniques to improve the operational performance of your process. In this way, your business will get the learning benefits as well as some practical improvements in your plant, all in a short period of time.
The output of the blitz includes:
· Facilitated support for the application of the DMAIC problem solving techniques
· An understanding by the participants of how to use the DMAIC process and tools such as 5W1H, 5 Whys, Pareto Analysis, Structured Brainstorming and Fishbone Diagrams
· Root causes and improvement solutions identified
· Selected solutions implemented and documented
· Facilitated support for the implementation of appropriate key Lean concepts
· Action Plan listing the recommended actions required to implement a range of other solutions and to ensure ongoing continuous improvement
· Detailed suggestions on how to sustain the improvement initiative

DMAIC is a 5 step problem solving process used for the focused improvement of any process.
What is a Kaizen Blitz?
Kaizen means change for good. A Blitz is a short, sharp concentrated effort. A Kaizen Blitz therefore is a change for good in a short sharp concentrated effort which combines the appropriate Lean Manufacturing Tools. Each tool incorporates team empowerment and problem solving to rapidly make improvements to a specific process.
The Kaizen Event methodology has been used extensively for improving the organisation of work in factories. The results are real-time with implementation occurring within a few days, rather than weeks or months. Not only will you obtain immediate improvements to your process - you will also develop a list of other improvement opportunities that your staff can investigate and implement after the Kaizen Event. The Kaizen Event will provide your company with immediate tangible results and motivation for ongoing continuous improvement within your company
Kaizen Blitz offers a number of advantages over other traditional problem solving, for example:
· Immediate results
· Involvement of the workforce
· Visual solutions
· Action orientated outcomes
· Competencies which can be leveraged for other projects
· Improved communication
· Creative solutions rather than capital investments
· Employees with an improved business perspective
· Effective implementation of change through the application of teamwork
It is anticipated that the improvements identified by the Kaizen Blitz exercise will improve the performance of the current process.
Expected Benefits of using Kaizen Blitz
· Reduced waste.
· Improved lead times.
· Improved throughput, productivity and profitability.
· Savings in time, resources and money.
