5S Blitz
What we do?
Efficiency Works is able to facilitate a 5S Blitz in your plant. The objective of this exercise is to work with a small team (up to 13 people) to implement the early stages of a 5S program.
As people learn best by doing our workshops are very practical and hands on. During the workshop participants learn the 5S concepts and then practically apply the tools in your process. This way your organisation benefits from the learning experience as well as some 5S improvement applied in your plant, all in a short period of time.
The output of the blitz includes:
Facilitated support for the application of the 5S principles in a pilot area
Sort, Set in Order and Shine applied to the pilot area
An understanding by the participants of why 5S is important
An understanding by the participants of how to implement 5S
Detailed suggestions on how to sustain the 5S initiative
Action plan developed to ensure ongoing continuous improvement

What is 5S?
5S is a simple but effective methodology to improve our workplace by simplifying, better organising and sustaining a productive work environment. Translated from Japanese words that begin with “S” the English equivalents are:
Sort – Get rid of clutter
Set in Order – Organise what is left behind
Shine – Ensure the area can be cleaned easily and keep it clean
Standardise – use of standards to ensure Sort, Set in Order and Shine are maintained
Sustain – Maintain through empowerment, commitment and discipline
The benefits of a 5S culture include:
improved safety
reduced waste
improved morale
ownership of the workspace
improved productivity
improved maintenance
better impression for clients and others
5S also becomes an enabler and an important foundation for your continuous improvement culture and the implementation of other Lean concepts.
What is a Kaizen Blitz?
Kaizen means change for good. A Blitz is a short sharp concentrated effort. A Kaizen Blitz is therefore a change for good in a short sharp concentrated effort which combines the appropriate Lean Manufacturing Tools. Each tool incorporates team empowerment and problem solving to rapidly make improvements to a specific process.
The Kaizen Event methodology has been used extensively for improving the organisation of work in factories. The results are real-time with implementation occurring within a few days, rather than weeks or months. Not only will you obtain immediate improvements to your process - you will also develop a list of other improvement opportunities that your staff can investigate and implement after the Kaizen Event. The Kaizen Event will provide your company with immediate tangible results and motivation for ongoing continuous improvement within your company
Kaizen Blitz offers a number of advantages over other traditional problem solving, for example:

Involvement of the workforce
