Since January 2007 Glenn has been a Director of the training and
consulting business Efficiency Works. In this role he leads corporate
teams towards their business improvement goals. These goals are largely
achieved through the application of Lean techniques. Many of Glenn's
existing clients are achieving success as a result of undertaking with
Efficiency Works the Competitive Manufacturing qualification. Glenn’s experience comes from the range of management and engineering positions he has held and is coupled with a Masters degree in Advanced Manufacturing Technology. For 5 years he managed the consulting group at QMI Solutions, Australia’s leading technology diffusion agency. During this time and for the 3 preceding years Glenn also consulted to a wide range of industries including food and beverage, metal processing, marine and automotive. His clients have ranged from multinationals to small family businesses and Glenn regularly lectures at University on manufacturing topics at both Post Graduate and Undergraduate levels.
Glenn’s career started with the Ford Motor company. During this time he worked as a production supervisor, automation specialist and also held a fulltime position introducing natural work groups into the paint operations.
After Ford, Glenn worked for an automotive parts manufacturer where he was involved in improving production efficiency by implementing lean manufacturing principles. Positions in the management of the Maintenance and CAD\CAM operations were also held. A year in the coach industry as a manufacturing engineer also provided Glenn with valuable experience. In a challenging environment he improved production efficiencies by working across the business from the shop floor through to administration.
As the manager of QMI’s consulting group Glenn grew the business significantly and helped it admirably fulfill its ultimate goal of diffusing new technology into the manufacturing industry.

Les Hewett
Les has spent the last 10 years providing hands-on facilitated support for organisations in the implementation of Lean. Prior to this Les spent over 20 years in Operations and Engineering management roles in a number of manufacturing companies. During this time his manufacturing experience included food and beverage, chemical manufacturing and metal processing industries. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University.
After moving to Brisbane from the UK in 1987 Les held various engineering roles with Defiance Milling, Hendersons Saydair and Dulux Paints. Previous manufacturing roles also included Operations Manager at McMain Bakeries Brisbane, a national manufacturer of pies and sausage rolls, Plant Manager with Dyno Nobel, a multi national explosives manufacturer, and Plant Engineer at Golden Circle in the Beverage Division. In the late 1990’s Les completed a Masters in Engineering and Technology Management at the University of Queensland. Les also holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Les' work includes delivery of workshops and training, together with hands-on facilitation and implementation of the full range of Lean tools.

John Cooper
John has enjoyed over 30 years in manufacturing primarily with Toyota Australia in a range of Management and technical positions. Management roles encompassed both operations and QA over a period of 12 years.
During his time with Toyota, John benefited from extensive training in Japan and one on one mentoring from Japanese executive co-ordinators in Australia in all facets of the Toyota Production System. John also had the benefit of being hands on involved in the transformation of the original company from a mass production operation to a TPS based lean manufacturer now acknowledged as a key member of Toyota’s global operation. John also gained considerable experience in project management during his time with Toyota with leadership roles in new model programs, plant relocations and change management. The most notable activities involved leadership in establishing the inspection department for the new Altona plant and leadership of quality improvement activities for export products. John also has experience with Front Line Management having been involved in the development of assessment modules and operating as a facilitator, coach and mentor during the initial introduction into Toyota. Since leaving Toyota, a 2 year period as production manager of a recreational vehicle manufacturer provided a good insight to the challenges faced by small to medium manufacturers in both the manufacturing area and providing training opportunities for staff. Since joining the team at EfficiencyWorks, John has delivered Cert IV training in Competitive Manufacturing and provided consulting services to a number of businesses in a range of lean manufacturing tools.

Sam Becktel
Sam Becktel is a Lean Practitioner and certified Six Sigma Black Belt with a wide-ranging background of work both within industry and as an independent Consultant and Trainer. Sam’s experience was gained over a period of 20 years in a variety of operations and quality roles with manufacturing and service companies in Silicon Valley, USA. More recently, he has worked as a Consultant, Coach and Trainer using both Lean and Six Sigma techniques for clients in Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Sam’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics (With Honour), a Master of Science in Systems Management and a Diploma in Competitive Manufacturing. Sam has joint USA and Australian citizenship.
Some of Sam’s recent clients have included Banks, Financial Services, Software, Food Processors, Assemblers, Manufacturers, Farming companies, the Military, Training providers, Warehousing companies, a Postal Service, Beverage companies, a Water Utility and Charitable organizations.

Martin Schembri
Martin Schembri draws on over 20 years experience in the training and development field. He has worked with a wide variety of Australian organisations to improve their business through processes and people skills.
After successfully managing the training operations for the Australian Chamber of Manufactures, he established his own Registered Training Organisation delivering Nationally Accredited programs to industry. These have included Frontline Management and Workplace Trainer & Assessor programs.
Other major projects have included: development of training manuals, writing SOP’s, development of competency based classification structures and conducting skills audits
In recent years, Martin has focused his skills on assisting organisations to become more competitive by applying lean solutions. His specific areas of expertise lie in the implementation of lean tools such as 5S, Improved Changeover, Problem Solving, Visual Management, Mistake Proofing, Value Stream Mapping and Continuous Improvement Teams.

Martin White
Martin has a manufacturing management background and is a qualified engineer. His core expertise spans the areas of Lean manufacturing and supply chain, strategic management and alignment, managing change implementations. He also has demonstrated skills in education, training, mentoring and management development. Prior to his career as a management consultant he worked as an Operations Manager for an agricultural machinery and industrial equipment manufacturer.
His consulting career spans over twenty years and includes key management roles in two Sydney based management-consulting practices. He has carried out consulting assignments in over 200 workplaces in Australia, USA and Fiji, and has led five study tours for senior managers to Japan and USA to research practices in strategic, technical, people and organisational processes.
Martin’s knowledge of best-in-class practices began in the 80’s when he was commissioned to research the application of the Toyota Production System by Department Industry Science and Technology in a variety of Japanese manufacturing plants. The research aim was to develop a practical program, based on best practice principles, suitable for Australian companies. The program ran for approximately two years and achieved some outstanding results in a number of leading companies.
The industry sectors consulted to include general manufacturing, steel, aluminium, engineering, food, beverage, rubber, telecommunications, appliance manufacture, gaming machines, TCF, government health, therapeutic goods and medical services.
Martin has been accredited to deliver World Competitive Manufacturing, CSIRO’s Organisational Performance Measurement System and Clutterbuck Associates to deliver the UK designed Mentoring System. Martin is an APICS CPIM, Fellow of AIM and Inst Mngt Consultants and holds a Masters Degree in Management from UWS.

Tony Riek
Tony has worked continuously for 20 years in the manufacturing sector where he has specialised in managing the introduction of new facilities and processes for a wide range of organisations. He has extensive knowledge of modern manufacturing approaches and he has developed significant project management expertise, working from board level approval through to commissioning and operational stages.
Tony is passionate about Lean Manufacturing and has engaged in the development, dissemination and implementation of Lean methodologies throughout his career. He was one of the founding consultants of QMI Solutions, which is widely regarded as an originator of Lean consulting services in Australia.
Recent work history includes 5 years in the role of New Process Manager, assisting with the transition to a Lean culture at one of the largest producers of luxury vessels in the world. Prior to joining Efficiency Works, he spent a year establishing the Australian operations for a global composites company.
Tony is a qualified mechanical engineer BE Mech (Hons) and holds an engineering masters degree, MEngSc..
